Hardwood Care and Maintenance | Baker Valley Floors

Daily Hardwood Care

Hardwood is one of the most durable flooring materials available, and as such, it is very low maintenance. With that said, some basic care is required to ensure that your hardwood continues to look great and function well over time. Learn more about the ins and outs of hardwood maintenance below.

Start by investing in a solid broom for your hardwood flooring. To keep it looking great, you'll want to sweep daily or every few days, depending on foot traffic. You may also elect to mop but do not let water pool on your hardwood as it could cause damage. Placing entry mats at the doors of your home and investing in area rugs can also help prolong the life of your hardwood flooring.

Dealing With Hardwood Spills & Stains

When a liquid spill occurs on your hardwood, grab a cloth and wipe up the mess in a timely manner to avoid damage. Hardwood is stain resistant, but letting a liquid pool on your hardwood is never a good idea as it could leak to the subfloor, causing irreparable damage. For solid messes, grab that broom and dustpan mentioned earlier and sweep the mess up. Hardwood is an incredibly low-maintenance flooring, and as such, spills and stains are not a major cause for concern.
